Business Manager Job Description

The Business Manager works directly with the CSU‑AAUP Treasurer on all financial matters. He is also responsible to the CSU‑AAUP President for duties other than financial matters. The obligatory duties of the Business Manager fall into the following categories: Financial, Office Management and Administrative.

  • The financial duties include the following:
  • Accounts payable (bills, weekly and biweekly payrolls, monthly employee premiums, etc.)
  • Accounts receivable (dues & interest income, reimbursements, etc.)
  • Tax and bank deposits
  • Calculation & remittance of National, CBC, Chapter & State Conference dues
  • Accounting of all treasury ledgers and records for CSU‑AAUP, SEBAC and the CSU-AAUP Political Committee
  • Quarterly and annual tax returns/reports
  • Preparation of CSU‑AAUP Treasurer’s reports
  • Preparation of financial statements for SEBAC
  • Preparation and submission of SEEC Ethic Reports for CSU-AAUP Political Committee
  • Preparation and submission of Office of State Ethics SEBAC Client Lobbyist Reports
  • Maintenance/updating of the Bargaining Unit database
  • Preparation and submission of all Dues and Membership Reports to National AAUP
  • Preparation of CSU‑AAUP Annual Budget
  • Preparation of Treasurer’s Annual Budget Report
  • Preparation and submission of all treasury records for annual audit
  • Confer with treasurer and/or accountant on accounting needs
  • Plan with treasurer for savings/investment needs
  • Prepare budgetary reports upon request
  • Plan and assist the Director of Member Services with CSU-AAUP computer database needs
  • The Office Management duties include the following:
  • Handling of incoming mail
  • Maintenance of financial/Treasurer files
  • Purchase of CSU-AAUP and Chapter equipment and supplies
  • Perform computer operations when appropriate and necessary
  • Make reservations and coordinate CSU-AAUP and Chapter delegate travel plans for in & out of state meetings and conferences
  • Operation and maintenance of office machinery
  • The Administrative duties include the following:
  • Attend AAUP local, state, and national meetings, hearings at the State Capitol and other meetings when applicable
  • Attend all CSU‑AAUP Council Meetings
  • Attend all Health Care Cost Containment Committee meetings
  • Attend all SEBAC meetings
  • Assist the National Office when directed by the CSU‑AAUP President
  • Preparation(s) for Council meetings, special meetings and negotiation session(s)
  • Photograph subject matter appropriate for newsletter use
  • Assist faculty with salary, life insurance, health insurance and retirement issues or problems
